Pinstriping Themed Deck
Pinstriping Themed Deck
Here are some preliminary designs for a deck I am currently calling “Rat Rod Pinstripes”.
The rust color would be a dark metallic copper ink, the teal color will be a metallic ink also for an rusted auto appearance. The red and black would be spot colors.
I would appreciate any comments on the design, etc. I think I have covered all of the bases of function such as indices placement and proper symmetry, but if I have made any mistakes that would effect play, please let me know.
Thank you,
Randy Coffey

Re: Pinstriping Themed Deck
Pictures aren't working anymore. But from what I managed to glimpse, it's inspired by the hand drawn pinstriping art done on cars.
Re: Pinstriping Themed Deck
Had trouble getting the link code right. The pictures should show now.
The theme is based on Rat Rods, which are hot rods that leave the car finish rusty and paint new pinstripes and graphics over it.

Re: Pinstriping Themed Deck
Initial thoughts: When I hear (read) "pinstripes" I think of mafia suits. English is not my native language though. As for the pictures (which I can now see), I don't really have any connection to a hotrods as a theme. "Hotrods" makes me think of oddly shaped cars (old/vintage ones with part of the engine sticking out of the hood) with flames on the side. So yeah, I'm probably not the guy to ask about advice for this deck

I think he's got the general idea of it. But I think he can go bolder with the design. I know a guy who does pinstriping and it's pretty awesome.
As it stands, I think it looks a little too neat. Sharpen the corners, add some swirls inside the pips, really make those courts pop. Some bold dashes of color could help.

Sorry I really don't know anything about the theme and can't connect to it at all. But I'm sure bolder colours and enlarging the courts to go beyond the circle like sher mentioned would definitely help.

@Randco - I think your suit index needs to be at least the same size as your rank index. Your indices need to be seen and read at a distance.
It seems your background dominates your foreground. Usually, it's the other way around. People are hinting that you need to make your courts and pips pop. I think they are right you need to have more of a balance somehow.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Here are some examples of the latest version.
I enlarged the background so there is more paint and less rust, this helps with the red on rust issue. The solid pips make the design bolder and show the card rank better.
I will be revisiting this design later this year, I have some other designs I am working on that are more illustration oriented.
