Haha no worries ! Traditionally there are colours associated with the creatures as well, (green, red, white, black) however i dont think white and black will work well as suits in such a colourful deck. But its always good to have more stuff to think about =)Alyooola wrote:Oh! Sorry, I meant to comment on that as well We discussed the tortoise and the reason he went with the fish is for design purposes. He says to consider this his artistic "twist" on the old mythology.

These are really really cool! Wasn't a fan of the gradients used and love that you took them out. Coloring is spot on. Well done!

Yes, I agree as well. It looked interesting to begin with, but the changes make it more marketable. We're getting there!Sher wrote:I really like how this developing.

Re: Ultimate Universe Playing Cards
Hello everyone
The designer has sent me an update on the color of the cad back. We have not yet sorted out the box coloring. I wanted to get your opinion on this first.
To me, the forest green seems a little out of place when compared to the courts. It doesn't scream "AWESOME" to me like the re-coloring of the courts did when I viewed the last update. However, others on our team seem to really like the shade. I am torn here. I like the mix of bright colors (reminds me of pachinko machine kind of, lol) but for some reason that green is throwing me off.
What are your thoughts? Any other ideas?

Black on some areas maybe? Might make the colors pop even more.

Re: Ultimate Universe Playing Cards
Eoghann I was thinking the exact same thing. I tinkered around with in in photoshop for awhile too. My only concern with the black is that there is no black on the faces. Do you think that really matters? the black really does make the colors pop. We want to stick with the final color on the face cards if possible.

Re: Ultimate Universe Playing Cards
My bad. You're right, there's no black! You could try using that dark, purplish color he has on the tuck front. Seems to be the same color he's using for the facial features and accents on the courts. Might prove just as effective as black?
Now that you mentioned it, the back colors seem a little muted compared to the courts. Almost pastel. Maybe it's for the best and making the colors just as bold could make the design a little jarring. Or it could just be my eyes playing tricks on me and the colors are in fact the same.

Re: Ultimate Universe Playing Cards
Really looking forward to these cards. I like the unique art style and the subject is pretty interesting too
As for your color issue... Maybe try to incorporate the main colors of each suit into the back design on a predominantly white background (so it's matching). A sort of balance of the universe with an even mix of each. Another idea... You could do a half black/ half white back so that you could fan two patterns. And I feel it could look pretty sweet Just throwing ideas, either way Ima love it. Good luck!

Re: Ultimate Universe Playing Cards
I don't think a white background would work best with this back design, the colors just pop a lot better against something dark. Of the mock-ups so far, I like the purple the most.
Also, don't know if this has been said already, but the courts really remind me of Thanos from Marvel comics

Re: Ultimate Universe Playing Cards
Yeah, what Tom said... Have you guys tried a black background on the faces? It looks really nice on the back... I think there's a good chance it will look nice on the faces, too.

Re: Ultimate Universe Playing Cards
Thank you for your input. I was really aiming to have a white deck release this go-round because we have had so many black colored decks coming out from GW lately.
Let me chat with the designer some more and I will keep you all updated.
Thanks again! Glad to hear that everyone is liking the overall design

I really like the current one and the all white one as well. If he agrees to a black background maybe that could be a third deck?

Re: Ultimate Universe Playing Cards
Hello all,
I would like to get feedback on the alternate version before we continue processing...
The colored version is final and we have already begun moving forward with that one.
With the original version being super bright and "in your face" we want the alternate to be very subtle with very minimal color.
Thoughts?
Should the dark grey be even darker (black?) to stand out more from the background?
I know this project has taken a while to unfold but I am doing everything possible to make sure that it is 100% before we release. Thank you all for your feedback and patience!

I definitely think the darker grey should be black.
Heres a quick and dirty change I did on my phone.

What do you think about the box? The darker greys should be black there as well, yes?

Definitely. I would also suggest a tiny dash of color as well. Perhaps on the title at least.Alyooola wrote:What do you think about the box? The darker greys should be black there as well, yes?

Re: Ultimate Universe Playing Cards
@Eoghann - I think art is being made. Nice recommendation.
@Alyoola - You can pull the indices like the KoD more to the left. You can go pass the dotted line halfway to the cut border. It looks like you top index is ⅓ the way in. Stick with that just make it the same with the left. It will open a little more art on the court. I like your avatar. http://www.unitedcardists.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=5706

Re: Ultimate Universe Playing Cards
Sprouts its not always about pushing the indices to the border, if you looked carefully the indices sit nicely in-line with the background pattern, so it really should stay the way it is.sprouts1115 wrote:@Eoghann - I think art is being made. Nice recommendation.
