A new deck design Check It Out

Unread post by lms_jam »

Hello everyone Landry here and I am in the process of designing a new deck. I don't have a name yet but would love to have your thoughts. It has more traditional style for the face cards. It has a 4 color suit and could become a stripper deck also. My last deck Unique Designs was very extreme and it needs something to make it work. It got a lot of awesome comments but for the moment I put it on hold to do this deck.

Yep, full-bleed is definitely the new trend. And I love it :D

Hmm, not sure about this one. Most likely just due to the unique color-scheme, I'm not a big fan of orange personally. Maybe you could try with the other colors "on top" and see how it looks? The design itself it pretty solid though.

The courts are more balanced in terms of color use (not counting the pips), and I think they're among the better "recolorings" I've seen. Although there's a bit too much white space.

I agree on the white space and I will try and see if I can go with a yellow instead of orange. Of course I could put the orange on the card back toward the back so that it is not so prominent.

I agree with tom about the courts with the white space, A little too much i think. The colour scheme looks to be the same as the back design, im guessing the spades and clubs would be blue then ? Wish you didnt give them blue faces tho, makes them look ill.

I think your back design looks too similar to the onces launch recently such as zenith and occults, perhaps its wish to lie low for a little while before springing these.

Hey Landry! I actually like the orange, cause there are a ton of red and blue (obviously) and quite a few green in my opinion. Orange diamonds, red hearts, blue spades, green clubs? But yeah, I love it and I hate waiting, but I'd hate to see these not get funded more.

I looked at the zenith and the occult deck an I see what you mean circular back design even though the designs are different. It's gonna take me some time to draw the rest of the court cards so it won't be out for a while. I will be updating the queen will post another picture tomorrow. Thanks for the input much appreciated.

Here is the updated queen, I think that the colors look well balanced. Also here are some pictures of the back design and how it became what it is. The green design back was based on something that I saw on an old playing card deck.

I liked the one color back with the white lines or black with white lines but I did not want it to look the same as a past deck.

Thanks it's a work in progress will show off more court cards when I finish them. The design on the bottom left is my least favorite. Here are some thoughts on a deck name, Gem Specter, Stone Illusion, Prism Four? I much like the last two not sure yet.

One thing about that queen is that it looks boxed in even though it isn't, because of the cut-offs. I don't know how hard this is to do, but if you could add on what's missing of her hair and crown it would look much better.

I would have guessed that the back in the lower right would have worked better, but it's just too chaotic. And the one with the blue on top (middle right) doesn't work that well either, not sure why. I think I might be warming up to the orange. The centerpiece bothers me a bit though, kinda boring compared to everything around it.

Everybody has different tastes: I kind of prefer the two - bottom right and center right. "Stone Illusion" sounds right to me, as well.

I like the queen with the black face instead of the blue one. As for backs I prefer the original one you posted and the bottom right. Stone Illusion sounds good, perhaps just Illusion or Prism.

So I liked the thought of adding the hair and it looks way cool and it does not have a square feel to it anymore. Thanks for the input. I think the deck will be called Stone Illusion. Now to work on the other court cards. By the way this is so much fun, as long as you have ideas.

Don't know if it's an optical illusion, but the queen's head looks deformed. Like...cone shaped and squished at the top. I think you'll need to pull the veil and crown to the right a bit so her head doesn't look so sharp.

The queen's head does look a little weird. I also like the bottom right of the card backs.

I like the center piece better than the last one, at least. And this back grew on me too, it looks really good.

Any kind of slight "deformity" in the queen/courts doesn't really bother me, standard courts have never looked anatomically correct anyway.

Hey where are you drawing the inspiration for the crowns from ? It doesn't seem to be anything from the western countries, but it looks like something inspired from Thailand or the region

I searched for some crown designs and found something similar not sue what region but I thought that it was a different approach. Not sure if it works but it looks cool.

Haha they actually look like the top of pagoda towers in south east asia. I think my only concern would be they they are looking rather tall, not sure if they would fit into the dimensions of the cards

Yes they are tall they go just above the top of the k. I just searched again for some crowns and I guess my interpretation is off. Do you think what is here works or should it change. I did not want to make something supper realistic i guess.

Hello I have been at work on the jack of diamonds and here it is, also I am redesigning the kings crowns as I have come to realize that they were nothing near the direction I wanted this deck to go.
