Wizard Themed Cards ( looking for feedback )

Unread post by ColtonM »

Hello,

I'll be launching a card Kickstarter by the end of next week and I'm looking for some last minute feedback. If you have time, please let me know what you think.

First of all, welcome to UC! You should make an introduction thread so we can get to know you better :)

Immediate thoughts on the cards:

Back - Too much negative space IMO, I would make the circles (and art within) bigger to fill it out.

3oC - I suggest making the lines around the index closer, ie moving the vertical lines closer to the number and pip. This would allow you to move the whole thing closer to the edge and make the indices more visible in a fan or spread.

I like this a lot. Very cool theme which is well executed on these two teasers. You might want to get some feedback on the court cards as well, there's a lot of things to do "wrong" there

Very cool concept!
I agree that the back art needs to be expanded. On the number card, I really like what I see. The circles kind of reminds me of atom orbits with the pip nucleus. Just as an afterthought, but maybe it would look cool if each pip had their own orbit? Might get crazy with the higher numbers though.

Looking promising for sure, but I agree with the observations so far. Are you the artist? (I can toss you into the Designers group?)

Got it, it might take a minute to show up. You should be yellow highlighted with "Verified Designer" beside your name.

Front looks great. Indexes are hard to read/see. Why not use the pip in the center of your front design for your indexes pips ?

Back, as other said need to be worked... You can remove the frame and extend the design (more visible). Perhaps use more color from the front too.

The background is dark or dark blue ?

And yes, i would probably spend money for this deck ;-)

Another thing that might be an issue: the very thin lines, I'm concerned they might be too thin and will get lost into the background once printed.

Very cool!

I agree about the back - A little reworking and it'll look great!.

I think the face looks great as it is!

Just saw this on the other forum and don't think it's been posted here. Supposed to be coming soon to KS, looks interesting.

I, like many others, think that the back design need more details. I love the dark navy colour and the double lined border. Face cards look good at the moment. I hope the number cards make use of both the inner and outer circle, if only the inner circle is utilized the larger numbers would simply look too packed and confusing. We shall see how it all plays out, custom court cards are a must here, there is alot of room for creativity with this theme.

Thank you, everyone, for your feedback. The art is pending approval from the USPCC legal team. The Kickstarter will officially be live on April 19.
I've attached the links to the new art. I'd still love to hear feedback.

Back C is an easy win.

I do prefer the darker background colour from the first images though. Having lost the embellishments around the indexes you can afford to push them out juuust a little (the large circles establish the border width nicely).

Having lost the index flourishes and the orbiting pips there seems more negative space now on the faces - maybe bringing in subtle elements of back B/C would help? Or constellations in the background perhaps - some sort of arcane zodiac maybe?

Great job so far - I do love a bit of arcane geometry! :)

My vote goes to C as well. Definitely push the indexes closer to the edge, like Joe said. Not sure why you put on the gray border, looks a lot better with the border matching the faces IMO (like in the first pic you posted) and magicians will like it more as well.

Love everything I didn't mention above though! Top notch :D

I think all the cards look too similar to each other, the differentiating points in the little things in the orbit is rather insignificant and cant really be seen. I really think the previous orbiting pips look much better

I dont quite like how the spades look, but i can see you are trying to fit it inside the six sided star.

But nice back, definitely C

I prefer back C.

IMHO, Ace of spades need to have a design more differentiated (more exuberant) from the other aces.

Courts are ok. Maybe I would change king of spades crown to a bigger one.

Number cards need to be more differentiated. The differences between 2 and 10 are really tiny. Perhaps add pips between the two external circles but it would be confusing with the one in center...

Hi everyone,

I delayed publishing the kickstarter so long so that I could really rework the cards based on your feedback. The kickstarter is now live as of today! Please feel free to check it out.

Thanks again for your feedback and support!

@ColtonM - First time seeing your cards. Liked your video. I see why you made the Ace pips small. Most ppl exaggerate the Ace.

Your number pips don't seem to work and the card "1-sided" This is your 5oC and 6oC. I don't see how I can tell the difference at a distance. I can barely see the one blue dot on the 5oC

Also have you done a demo deck? You have a darker blue background with a light blue foreground and some dark blue shading. The image on the deck may not come out the way you envision it.

Lastly, your Jacks seem to have a feminine crown. Do you imagine the Jacks being a little light on their toes?
