Strigiformes - an owl deck

Unread post by maggock »

Okay, so my kickstarter for my parrot deck is doing well, but I realize it's not even remotely traditional, and I've gotten interested in trying to do a more functional design now. So I've been fooling around with owls. I've gotten some good feedback on the playing card forum and I thought I show the art here as well, now that I've got a few cards done.

Pretty interesting illustrations! What's the idea behind the swords? Does the indicate the suit?

Oh yeah! It indicates suit and there's a little cartomancy symbolism in there as well (same reason the Ace owl is holding a skull.) The swords are scimitars because those blades are meant to be used in motion and I just figure if owls used swords, they'd want a blade that could be used in flight. ;)

I know someone who has lots of owl stuff who would love this deck!

So will the owls of the other suits (hearts, diamonds, clubs) carry different types of swords?

I believe that's how I'm going to do it - I'm still researching and thinking on what I'll do for the other suits.

Hi Renee. The art work is again beautiful (as was your Parrot deck) have you any thoughts on what the card backs are going to look like. And are you going to introduce any colours to the deck?
