I much prefer the borderless background... it's cleaner, crisper and aesthetically more pleasing.
For my professional design consultation, I require one deck upon eventual completion. :D

j/k, can you blame me for trying?

Seriously though, I prefer the borderless.

They both look awesome, but I'm leaning more towards the borderless one for the same reasons as MJF.

If you made both though, I'd buy both :D

I prefer clearly the withe face card. Blue are too dark.

I'm now putting together the details for the kickstarter project for Polaris and wanted to share some of the new images and info...

I've decided to keep the backer levels very simple and straightforward - I hope this will make everything easier for backers to order exactly what they want and for me to keep track of who purchased what items. They will basically be a base level and everything (additional decks + accessories) can be added on a la carte.

I'm creating card-sized limited edition laser-etched wooden cards - each backer gets one. They will have laser-etched serial numbers and you can choose any card from the deck to be etched on the front.

I'm working on putting the video together and plan to launch on kickstarter in the next week or two - I'll keep you updated on the actual launch date/time once I get the finalized.

I've also designed a set of poker chips to go with the Polaris design - I found a company that produces high-quality chips that look and feel fantastic (casino-quality) and these are gonna be really sweet!

This deck looks awesome! I'm really liking the design... it's very unique.

I still think it needs thin, white borders, though ;)

Just wondering, will those backs print correctly with cutting and all? Seems like the tolerances will be quite tight.

I'm not 100% convinced of the back design anyway, but I do love the pips, courts and especially those poker chips. Do you know who (which company) will be producing them?

The chips will be produced by buypokerchips.com - custom ceramic chips. I'm expecting my sample print run in the next week so I can post actual photos of them soon!

Also, I'm putting together the kickstarter page for Polaris...check it out here:

You really need a Canadian shipping option. Most KS campaigns have caught on.
Adding $7 shipping is insane .. especially when you consider that the $10 deck price already includes the shipping fees to the states.

you only need to add a couple bucks.

for example if it costs
Shipping to USA - $20
Shipping to CAN - $35
Shipping to INTL - $65

roughly thats the scale... Canada/Mexico is just under double and INTL is about 3-4 times.

The problem is that kickstarter doesn't distinguish location for the international fee addition...it's just a flat rate per backer level regardless of country shipped to. I picked an amount that is somewhere around the average of shipping costs for different countries.

Perhaps I can offer a special bonus to my canadian backers as compensation for the extra shipping charge, eh? ;)

The going rate is to add $1 per deck

Here are some examples...

Except that project doesn't take advantage of the new built-in international shipping fee feature that kickstarter has implemented, which has fixed a major issue with previous projects - international backers who didn't add on the shipping fee.

Howzabout I offer my canadian backers a bonus credit for use at the Vända online store? (which is launching this week, btw)

Hey do the wooden cards add a significant cost to the decks? i could see a significant number of people (myself included), wanting to just get the decks without it if it can come cheaper, to me its nice and all as a freebie but i dont think im willing to fork out extra for it?

and $7 for int shipping is =( wish i had gotten in on the vanda decks, but i hadnt discovered kickstarter at that time =( oh well..

Actually, the wooden cards don't add much cost to the decks - think of them more as an extra incentive (a free collectible item that comes with your order). Obviously you get much better value by purchasing 2 or more decks or by adding other accessories.

You might just get an order from me for 4 decks (2 of each) but only if I get in on the early bird. Sorry, that shipping internationally plus $15 per deck base price for non-early birds is too much.

I somewhat agree. 4 decks on early bird averages at $9 per deck shipped (if the wooden card costs $6), compared to $10 on the non-early bird. Anything less than 4 decks will make the average go up, and more will make it go down. There have been a few decks priced higher, but not many. Most have been less IIRC. Although it is a very balanced system, the cost for 2 and 4 decks should be more favorable as this is most likely where the majority of the pledges will be at.

I would agree you might do better creating a level with 2 decks(1 each) and 4 decks(2 each) EarlyBird $15/$28 and then a not EB but still limited $20/31.
