In any case, congratulations for having completed all your court cards! Just the Ad cards and Jokers left ! This calls for a mini celebration!
Yeah, the Queen of Hearts' corner elements will be worked out. I'm not worried about it.

Not done with the Courts yet! I still have the Jack and King of Spades. I purposely skipped over them to save for last. They will be Gold/Black and Black/Gold and be very detailed. The goal is to use some elements from the ORNATES to tie them in with some of my other stuff and give them a Baroque vibe!

This week though I'll be concentrating on a new red Egg to replace the Egg on the Back design. I was never completely happy with the Back Egg. It was the first one and I changed up my modeling and surfaces techniques after it when I built the Queen of Spades Egg.

Thanks, Randy

Me too!... except maybe for the heart on the shield.
Don't you think it should be all the pips or none?

I thought it was appropriate to have the Heart since the Red Eggs are with the Heart Suits, and they are also the only ones with the Double-Headed Russian Eagle.

Randy - Double eagle with a shield is a very common theme. You can put anything on the shield and make it work. You can also have the double eagle holding something to make it more complicated. The most common are an orb and a sword, but anything would fit the theme. Got any first concept of the Jokers? Your close to getting done. I think earlier y"all :D (texas) mentioned the Joker would be open at the top.

Hey everyone,

I forgot to post over here that I won't have a new Imperial Card finished up this week. My wife and I have been on vacation in New York since Friday. Besides the usual site-seeing we also visited the Metropolitan Museum of art and saw their Faberge collection - 3 Imperial Eggs and a few Cigarette Cases and other miscellaneous items. Gorgeous stuff!

My wife and I also had lunch with Don Boyer and his wife this afternoon. Very nice guy!

We'll be heading to Michigan on Wednesday to pick up our kids who are having a blast with my parents for "their" vacation. And then back to Indy on Thursday where I'll get back into the swing of things to get this Deck design finished up!!

Thanks, Randy

We're back from our trip and I just finished up the Imperial Tuck Box. The Tuck Inside will be with Gold Foil - much like many Imperial Eggs that have Gold interiors.

thanks, Randy

I'm glad the responses to the Tuck are positive! I've wanted to get to it for a long time, but held off because I knew the new Egg for the Back design would be needed. Doing some test Renders of the Jack of Spades Egg now. It should be ready in a few days.

Here's the finished card for the Jack of Spades. Just 1 more Court and then the Jokers and Gaffs!
Some of you may notice a little nod to the ORNATES in this one.

Sorry randy, i just feel a little underwhelmed by this jack, it looks a little plain in comparison to the others. This could possibly be due to the colour, making the egg blend into the background instead of standing out. Also i think the gradation due to the light on the egg makes it look a little 'dirty' in my opinion.

When the deck is this well-done, we've got to be a little more critical and nit-picky no ?

Yeah, I agree on some of that. I always look at each new card the morning after it's finished to get fresh eyes on it. My first reaction this morning was "it looks a little dirty". I was going for a shiny and very reflective Pewter finish with strong black and gold reflections coming from the sides. I think it turned out pretty close but the super dark edges paired with the light center just makes the edges standout in a bad way. Luckily, with all of the render passes I do for each egg it's not a big deal to play around and change colors and reflective values.

I like the bones of the eggs model. It matches up nicely with the other Jacks. I'll play around with it this weekend and see how it goes!

Thanks, Randy

Alright, here's the revised Jack of Spades. I adjusted the reflections quite a bit, gave the overall appearance a more metallic dark grey appearance and added a black border around the "ammo shoulder straps" and oval frame to make their details pop more.

I've also attached a look at all four Jacks together to show how it matches up with the other three.

thanks, Randy

Hey randy im liking the new jack of spades alot more, i think the colour works alot better ! The reflections are also much better, not sure why but the reflections seem to make the egg like look it has an indent on the top of the egg. But i like this much much better :D

Randy - Have to agree with volantangel. It looks like a dent. Can we say dent? Maybe if you stare at it long enough it might go away. I'm sure it's a minor fix.

Just finished up the last of the Court Cards! All that's left are the Jokers and Gaffs.
Here's a look at the final Spades and a closeup of the King of Spades Egg.
(And yes, I fixed the reflection on the top of the Jack).

thanks, Randy

Wow. That's the only thing that popped in my head when I looked at the King closeup. I'm not really into Faberge (?) eggs, but I think I'll definitely have to buy a few of these when they come out. As for all the detail, is it too much to be printed correctly, even with USPCC? Sorry if it's a silly question, but I'm still new to custom decks, and I don't personally own any that are this detailed. Very impressive artwork, I'm always in awe of anyone who can make beautiful things on a computer. I'm happy when I can cut and paste properly lol.

Thanks Charlie and Volantangel!

Charlie, you should definitely google Fanerge Eggs - the work is amazing!

As for the small details, they shouldn't be a problem. I haven't printed the King of Spades yet but the King of Clubs prints great to scale ony home printer. If details print fine on a personal color laser jet then an offset printer will have no problem capturing the details. The ORNATE Jokers are created in a similar way and have a lot of small, bitmap details - especially on the staff. I could'nt have been happier at how they turned out!

Thanks, Ramdy

Thanks Walrus! I'm glad people are liking these. Being a Faberge fan for many years, I really wanted to do this design for myself and hoped it was good enough for the masses. Tonight I'll be starting on the Jokers. Hopefully the last few cards will be done in a couple weeks and these puppies can go off to print!

I'll have to say "No comment" on the deck producer, for now. I will say it's NOT through Kickstarter.

Thanks, Randy

Randy - is it Jumpstartcity.com? Seems you made the King of Spades to lead into your Jokers with a lid top. Will the Jokers be different on each reversible side one side being open and one side closed. Will it show treasure? Might have to get a deck. Would like to see if the 3-D shows up on the cards.

Sprouts - I never said the Jokers would be reversible on the same card. I HATE that trend of having court cards different on each half. It goes against the best rule in playing cards - symmetrical courts. With the courts being assymetrical it's obvious if someone has a court card in their hand. Sure it's not as bad as 1 court image that takes up the whole card, but the player would still want to rotate the card to check out the facing image.

On that note, here's the set of Imperial Jokers! These are the only Eggs in the deck that will be shown on a stand, and at a perspective camera angle.

The "surprise" inside is the Imperial Crown of Russia. The Joker face mounted to the oval frame is the part of the model from the Ornates' Jokers!

- thanks, Randy

The jokers look realy good, they go well with the rest of the deck IMO!
My magician side is thinking that you could put a reveal on the surprise joker, but my collector side is begging for you to make these cards available!!

Great job!
