Pirates deck

Unread post by anton_si »

I am producing a deck of cards and would like some feedback on the artwork. My goal is to successfully raise money on Kickstarter for this project. I have asked several artists to provide sample artwork. Tell me, which styles do you like?

Also, I have heard that cardists have great respect for cards printed by USPCC. I was going to go with a cheap Chinese manufacturer instead (who assures me their quality will be the same). How much of a problem would that be for you if you were considering to buy the deck?

Thank you for your input!

Wow. 5 great designs. Hire all of them and produce a 5 deck set: 5 different decks, 5 artists, 1 theme. I would be all over that.

I dream of a world where wars are fought only by having dance offs. I also dream that a Finnish playing card designer would exist. The former seems more likely to happend.

That's a pretty cool although ambitious idea. 5 decks!

Also to answer the question about manufacturing the kind of manufacturing you are describing would be a deal breaker. Doesn't matter how cool the concept or art is, if the cards feel like crap I wont use them and thus don't want them. USPCC isnt the only option, EPCC (taiwan printing anyway), LPCC, Cartimundi all make great quality cards. Honestly if I don't see one of those names I don't back. That said MPC and NPCC are good enough that a good looking deck printed by them could fund. Un-named Chinese printer however will not see a lot of support I'm afraid.

Read this again and tell me if it sounds like a good idea :ugthink:

Rule of thumb when it comes to cheap Asian manufacturers: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

I like 2 & 5.

Go with big printer for best success. Your unnamed Chinese printer sounds like a used car salesman, promise you the car is good as new, you buy it, and once off the lot it dies. Now if they can give you a sample deck for you to compare to the other printers and give it a real breaking in, I mean really abuse the deck with use, and it is still like new then think about it and let us know.
Move on, nothing to see here.

#2 and #5 are clearly the best to me, with #2 being my favorite.

I am going to say I liked sample 4 the best. Sample two I really didn’t like. His mouth just looks weird. Number five was sort of okay, but too cartoonish. Maybe I am too picky.

Thank you all for your responses! They are extremely valuable to me.

To clarify about the "cheap Chinese manufacturer". I am confident that the quality of their work will be high. I have used them to print another deck (Tarot) previously. Those were paper cards, these I was going to make plastic. No one has complained about the quality and it has a 4.5+ rating on Amazon. My concern was that people simply won't trust a smaller manufacturer and won't even give the deck a chance. JuFIN has expressed this well. I have some thinking to do.

Thank you all very much!
