Fantasy deck - in progress

Unread post by sashado »

Hello,
I'm working on a new deck that is fantasy world themed. For now I have clubs finalized and half done aces. Any critics / suggestions appreciated.

I quite like it. But: 1. Make the clothes on the courts more vivid and interesting. 2. Could you add some color to the skin? 3. Fix the sword on the King, the guard is way too big compared to the blade, makes it look silly and impractical as a weapon.

You are on the right track and the right train but not in the right cart yet.

Leaving the faces majority white makes them feel incomplete.

I really like the idea though and the direction the art is going, I just want it to go a bit further!

Really love the aces so far.

Q of clubs looks great with color in her hair! Improved big time for me. Leaving the actual skin white or very pale works it’s just a bit too much when there is so much other white.

For sure colored hair. For sure, both queens look better with them.

Hair and skin color look better. Can you change the gold pips to black/red? Your corner pips are so small the larger pips need quick and easy color recognition.
Move on, nothing to see here.

I really like these in full color. You've done a good job evoking classic standard court iconography translated to fantasy characters. I'd be all over these.

Thanks to all of you, I'm still in dilemma, as on Instagram all people vote for half colored (white face and hair)

One thing you might like to test if you want to keep the hair white would be to change the line colour for those areas from black (to like yellow, brown, blue, or something). I don't know whether you will like this effect here but it is one way of adding something to the large areas of white, so could be worth a look.

I agree. There is something about the uncolored hair that is putting me off. Maybe also because the lines are so fine.

Put the hair color back in please. With the white weapons and flower along with elves pale skin there is too much white.

I do like the red + black on large pip so good job there.

Love the concept, the artwork is beautiful.. but I have to agree, that you should keep the hair colored. I think slightly richer colors would be nice as well.

I agree with the majority of the people here that the courts look better with color in their hair. ;)

these are looking really great and the color schemes are working really well together, but I'd suggest maybe a little more contrast between the background and the clothing to better define those details - otherwise, it starts to look a bit too monochromatic. Maybe a slightly bolder outline could also do the trick.

Also, maybe it's just me, but the rope of hair jetting out from the side of the Queen of Clubs face is distracting and doesn't fit well with the loose waves of the rest of her hair - just doesn't seem to make sense or look like it's a part of her hair in texture or styling. Just some thoughts to consider.

Sasha, if you are planning to print with USPCC they will ask you to move down most parts of the image from the very top. Crowns are too close to the edge.

I like colors. Have you tried to make the background grey and white? Or even darker than now.

You are right, in case of USPCC I will need to extend the margins to 3 mm, it is 1.9 mm now.
As for colors, I have tried different schemes, but still can't choose one. Personally I like monochromatic schemes much more, but I know that my preferences often do not match other people. These are samples of some options I have tried:
