Re: Star vs. the Forces of Evil Deck
I just found this thread and am looking at your work. I like it. I think it is different enough to make a go at it. If nothing else, when you get it finished, get some estimates and make a try to fund through Kickstarter. A lot worse decks get funded there. You might think about some more customized pips you can repeat throughout. However, you have a very distinctive style, so I don't want you to mess that up. I am going to have to look up this show. When I first read the header, I was thinking Star Wars and was a bit confused until I read more.

Re: Star vs. the Forces of Evil Deck
Thanks for the kind words! When the time comes, I will definitely want to research how to turn the artwork into an actual deck.
Here's another number card (their school teacher, before and after Star accidentally turned her into a troll):

The show is sort of like as if someone crossed Dr. Suess with Game of Thrones. Only, the Game of Thrones aspect isn't immediately apparent--the show looks like harmless silliness until the main plot kicks in ... so that when the heavy stuff goes down, it is all the more shocking.

Re: Star vs. the Forces of Evil Deck
I completely forgot I used to post my cards here! I found the number cards a dead end in the style I was using ... gave it up for a while ... then returned to it.

Re: Star vs. the Forces of Evil Deck
Thanks! I got discouraged because I wasn't having any fun drawing the number cards - it took me a while to realize this was because I was using a format I didn't really enjoy. I scrapped that and went with a totally different format, and now I'm nearly done the whole deck! It was more work, as each number card = a whole new art work, but it was worth it because drawing them was a lot more fun.MagikFingerz wrote:Really glad you're back! I'll post them here when I get a chance - have to run now.

Thanks!Azid wrote:Almost forgot about these, and i'm happy to see that this is still in progress.
And now making this a semi-transformation deck makes it even more awesome.
The funny part is I started this before I learned what a semi-transformation deck even was. I was very happy to learn there was a term for it.

I guess I'll start with Diamonds. Please let me know what you think (yes, sometimes I put more than the requisite number of symbols in if I thought it might be fun ...):

Re: Star vs. the Forces of Evil Deck
There isn't a single one of these that I don't like! For some reason, I think I like the 2 best.
If this were done with cold foil in the fronts like you have that metallic ink/paint? they would be fabulous.
They need an equally amazing back and tuck design as well.

Re: Star vs. the Forces of Evil Deck
I just noticed the pips and indices being alternate color for the one in the other side of the card and the extra bits around the court pip. Wow!
I mean, these are no rectangle with a dot in them, but wow!

New to this thread, just discovered and had a great time scrolling through. I really enjoy the process, and seeing these dramatic images. Please continue to make this a reality.

Very beautiful paintings. Can't wait to see the final product, even if it may take a while. Nice to see somebody working non-digital on a card design.

A question (really for anyone): I know nothing about the nuts and bolts of actually printing cards. Is there a good source for reading up on that?chicken_ql wrote:Jeez these are awesome. You should totally print with foil from cartamundi if you make these

Re: Star vs. the Forces of Evil Deck
The Spades. Note: I may make some changes ... in particular, I may wish to replace the 10, as it is somewhat similar to the king.
The theme of the Spades is "Monsters" (the theme of the Diamonds was "Mewmen"; the theme of the Hearts is "Earth" and the theme of the Clubs is "the Multiverse")

Re: Star vs. the Forces of Evil Deck
I suggest you watch some youtube videos about the different stocks/finishes/printing companies. Maybe read some posts in the general playing card section about people's opinions on printers.Malthus1 wrote:A question (really for anyone): I know nothing about the nuts and bolts of actually printing cards. Also, i'm sure you can ask someone from Cartamundi or USPCC to help you out.

Re: Star vs. the Forces of Evil Deck
Cartamundi has an awesome customer service, they are fast and very helpful. USPC in my personal experience is s**t with replying. Takes them days to answer and all you get are platitude answers. Really anoying. I prefer USPC as a printer though.chicken_ql wrote:Also, i'm sure you can ask someone from Cartamundi or USPCC to help you out.
