Pieces by Christian Engblom - Magic Trick Review

Unread post by Magic_Orthodoxy »

Creator: Christian Engblom
MSRP: $ 30
Skill Level: Intermediate
Video Run time: 47:03

Type of effect: Card triumph

Manufacturer's Write Up:

Christian is a creative genius! Pieces is the most natural looking Triumph effect we have ever seen. Christian created a new revolutionary principle that takes the plot to a whole new level and at the end everything is examinable. If someone could really magically do a triumph this is how it would look! Comes with gimmick and online instructions

How accurate is the ad copy? Accurate except that it comes with "gaff cards" and not a "single gimmick" as the copy implies.

What's in the box? Download code and red Bicycle card gaffs

Key points: Video has instructions for both a preset and a borrowed deck

How are the production values: Christian performing for Robert one spectator in a studio, one camera shot

Is it well made: gaffs are reliable Bicycle stock

Is it well taught: Christian does go over forty minutes of instruction and does include a borrowed deck version as well, however that option seems like a stretch to pull off and so I would not recommend it.

My thoughts (what I personally liked/disliked): There are plenty of triumph effects that use gaff cards, so what makes this one different? Technically the biggest difference is being able to show the deck mixed in a spread and then without "turning the deck over" you are able to perform a second spread and show all of the card "right."

Storage? Does it "pack flat?" only a deck of cards

Does it "play big?" the triumph is always a fun plot, but this routine will especially play big on your magician friends.

How practical is this in the real world? (can it really be done?) absolutely, however this is a parlor effect. You will need to be seated with a card mat to perform.

How original is this idea? the face up face down card effect that was invented by Dai Vernon and is in the book stars of magic.

Overall score: 8/10
