card trick book

Unread post by beginnercardgirl »

I am thinking of buying a book of card tricks so that I will be able to learn new tricks when I am away from home and I don't have wifi. Is there any book that you think is especially good that I should get?

Bear in mind that the GREAT books were written a long time ago and take some used to reading and understanding, new books typically only have the effects of one artist and none of them are especially easy.

I guess knowing your skill level is important.

These are some of my favorite books: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Pg_2D-2ILk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If you're fairly new to magic, I'd recommend Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic or Now You See It, Now You Don't!: Lessons in Sleight of Hand by Bill Tarr- both are bibles of Magic and have tons of effects. Bill Tarr even includes card flourishing.

We do need to have an idea about your experience before we can offer much useful advice. Do you already have some card magic books and how have you progressed with them?

Some suggestions for non-sleight card magic:

Magic With Cards - Frank Garcia & George Schindler
Self-Working Card Tricks (and its sequels)- Karl Fulves
Scarne On Card Tricks - John Scarne (One of my FAVORITES)
Semi-Automatic Card Tricks (5 vols. but 1 & 2 have the best reviews) - Steve Beam
Nick Trost Books - The Card Magic of Nick Trost, Subtle Card Creations Vols. 1, 2, 3, & 4
Card College Light, Lighter & Lightest by Roberto Giobbi
Marlo Without Tears

Even experienced magicians will find some gems in these books. I'm sure there are a lot more, but this list should be sufficient for starting out and M_O gave you some good tips as well.

I'm just starting. I don't have much experience at all. I'm looking for a good book to learn from on my own. I also have a friend who knows quite a bit of magic who is teaching me some too. I don't have any magic books yet.
Sorry I didn't include enough information.

Magic is like playing piano, you have to learn scales and chords before you can play a song. Beginner books teach those basics, but don't expect to be amazing people right away. You got to learn to crawl before you can run... and other such inspirational mantras.

Get your hands on Expert at the card table as soon as you can. It may seem hard at first but that is the ( in my opinion ) most important book on card magic I would also suggest the worlds best card tricks by Bob Longe and actually anything of his if you are just starting out
