Re: What makes you back a deck (Kickstarter) or buy a deck?

nECr0MaNCeD: I agree about some artists you would back sight unseen. Only been involved with one KickStarter, when I was lucky enough to back Lorenzo Gaggiotti's sumptuous Red Cats, and in Stockholm17's capable hands the project went as smooth as could be. Excellent customer service coupled with a t...

Re: My Collection and Card Case

Sorry for the late reply. Been a busy couple o' weeks! Thanks for the compliments, ecNate. I like shadow box frames - have you got any pictures of your work? I wish I could say it's all skills developed, but most of the credit has to go to the Physiotherapy Heavy Workshop in Llanfairfechan, North Wa...

Re: My Collection and Card Case

Thanks, shaitani. Some months, but it was a morning every week. Part of a rehabilitation program from the after care unit at the NHS. I had no prior experience whatsoever, always did horribly at Woodwork at school, too! They are a skilled, friendly and helpful bunch at the workshop however, so makin...

Here is the door open. To negate any imbalance, I put the hinges at the top. WP_20170217_13_46_16_Pro.jpg And this picture shows the magnet that seals the door closed. You can see it under the deck of Karnival cards as a round silver dot. WP_20170217_13_45_57_Pro.jpg Sorry about the naff quality of ...

Re: My Collection and Card Case

Thanks,

It's made of stained pine, and measures W 36" x H 28", and hinges at the top. The front plate is perspex, glass would have been too heavy for the frame.

It helped me a lot, thanks for asking.

My Collection and Card Case

Just thought I'd show you lot the case I built for my cards as part of my Physiotherapy treatment. I had a stroke a couple of years ago, right around the time I was getting interested in cards, and I decided on the case as my project.

Looking for a Close-Up mat

Hi, need a little help here. I'm looking for a mat / pad for Close-Up work, and I wonder, can anyone offer any hints / recommendations as to what brand / type is good. I've seen ones on Ebay and Amazon, and various websites, but have no frame of reference as to what i should be looking for. I'm a be...

Re: What makes you back a deck (Kickstarter) or buy a deck?

I favour classic designs. The Origins series or the Omnia. I don't go for the more 'modern' (in terms of styling) decks.

Gothic or death-themed decks hold no interest for me, neither do ones that look space-age or metallic.

Give me simple, traditional lines any day.

Re: "This is my favorite Ace of Spades in my collection" thr

This is my favourite for two reasons: 1) This was my first. I had a stroke just before Christmas last year, and my family chose this deck as a "get well" present. 2) I just love the line and detail. Clear, not too busy, with a element of mystery appropriate to the deck. Archangels-Ace.jpg

As a pauper, I rarely buy multiple decks. I have two Decks of Monarchs, and two Gold Dragon Backs (but one was an unexpected gift).

Re: Bicycle Cards In Movies

Bicycle is a legendary maker of premium playing cards, and an American institution, and it's somehow 'right' that they have permeated down through film culture as the classic "GoTo" deck. I was watching Sin City : A Dame to Kill For the other night. While not a very good film, and in no me...

Coloured Stock

I've noticed, when looking for coloured cards, that the majority are obviously printed on white stock and then coloured to suit, backs and faces. It looks kind of lame when, for example, you see black cards with white edges, when viewed from the side as a block. I just wondered, are there any cards ...

Metallic Inks

Hi, I don't know which forum to post this topic in, but this one seems to be the most relevant. Just a quick question: Are there any decks out there which have metallic inks for both the red & black pip cards, but DO NOT have David Blaine's (or any other "personality's") face on the co...

Re: Playing Card Stocks & Finishes

Thanks guys! schfifty5 , thanks for the link - very informative. The Aces in both of my 'nice' decks carry the serial 3514-T1635H, which puts them as 2014 decks (T) or a 2006 decks (H). The 'nasty' cards bear the serial H1625, well, all of the ones that I opened, which if real, also puts them at 200...

Playing Card Stocks & Finishes

Hi, As a newcomer to this forum, I have a question. In addition to my slowly growing 'collection' (I have exactly 5 'non-standard' decks!) I have two decks of Bicycle Standard playing cards with to practice. These were bought on ebay.co.uk (since I live in the UK) These having become a little 'tired...

Introduce myself, huh?

Hi, I'm an amateur, what, card trickster from the UK? Shortly before christmas 2014 I gave up smoking and, in lieu of something do with my hands and - being a life-long fan of close-up card magic - decided to take up the art. Two weeks later, I suffered a multiple stroke. I got off lightly: my intel...
